15 Everything is clean to the clean-minded; nothing is clean to dirty-minded unbelievers.
We are assailed from dawn to dusk, and when we sleep in our dreams and subconscious, by every kind of thought and imagination. Paul here speaks of our mindset as believers, and how we ought to view things in and about us. Our filter for discerning and understanding the state of things, is to view things through the mind of Christ, and to see things as clean and not defiled or dirty.
If we are being renewed day by day as we walk and talk with our Lord, we are transformed through the renewing of our minds. Through that change and transformation of our thinking and processing about life and the issues we face and the encounters we have moment by moment throughout the day, we ourselves are undergoing change.
Many people point to believers and it is really easy to judge and find fault. We always see our own flaws and imperfections, and the greatest sins that bother us, are the sins and issues of the heart we see in others. How people live their lives, and the things that irritate us, are the very things in our lives that we need to deal with. All these people who may have no idea that we are being provoked, are simply being a mirror reflection of the issues of our hearts and lives.
We can be true to ourselves and honest with others.
There is no need to defend ourselves. If we truly know ourselves and who we are, we will readily admit our own shortcomings and our own sin problems. Admitting them is one thing, but turning them over to Christ and leaving our sin stuff behind us is really quite another. Paul reminds us here that we need to continue to operate by the Spirit and be mindful to think and act from a righteous heart and mind, the mind of Christ. It is only then that we can tear down strongholds that would otherwise hinder us, derail us, undermine us, in our quest to live lives that honor Christ and the Gospel, and does not bring our lives in disrepute to those who are not yet in the Kingdom of God. Living lives of integrity and honor, means we ought to think and act in a manner worthy of who we claim to be. Operating from an orientation of a clean heart and mind, is but the beginning of a live of ongoing transformation of character and change. Let us resolve to be renewed and transformed day by day.
ROMANS 12 [The Message]
1-2 So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
2 CORINTHIANS 10 [The Message]
3-6 The world is unprincipled. It’s dog-eat-dog out there! The world doesn’t fight fair. But we don’t live or fight our battles that way—never have and never will. The tools of our trade aren’t for marketing or manipulation, but they are for demolishing that entire massively corrupt culture. We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. Our tools are ready at hand for clearing the ground of every obstruction and building lives of obedience into maturity.
Do not give up and don’t lose hope.
We are undergoing change day by day, and our lives and character is being transformed from the inside out. We will see progress little by little over time. As one of my friends once said to me, “I know that I fail. I know that I sometimes sin. I know that I may embarrass myself and offend others. But I also know more of the grace of God today than yesterday, and that I am not as bad today as I was yesterday. I am simply a Christian under construction, being build on the only One and True foundation, Jesus Christ.” What more could any of us say?
Peace be with you and upon you this day.
