KOG Life and Service

Christians are called not only to become members of the “family of God” but also to be engaged as members as “soldiers of Christ”.  Some have taken the mindset that “life is a party” and have failed to grasp the importance of being engaged members on active service in the service of the King.  When one thinks of the disciples at sea with Christ in their fishing boat, one does not think of them as on a “Christian cruise” but rather as team members, each with a role and place in the boat, in the navigation of the boat and also in the activity of fishing.  Each disciple trained to be a member of the team, to hoist the sail, to mend and clean the nets, to navigate, to haul in fish.  There is no room for the “Christian tourist” in their boat!

Christians are called to a live of service and dedication to Christ, and to follow His example found in John 5:19-20 (The Message):

“So Jesus explained himself at length. “I’m telling you this straight.  The Son can’t independently do a thing, only what he sees the Father doing.  What the Father does, the Son does.  The Father loves the Son and includes him in everything he is doing. “But you haven’t seen the half of it yet,”

It is most import to discover that as we walk with Christ, that we are intimate with Him and hear His voice, and do what He clearly instructs us through His word. We may be His hands and His feet, but we need our minds renewed and our spirits quickened by His, and are spiritual ears attentive to His voice so that we will not only be hearers of His word but also doers of the word.

We are called to serve, and we do so out of gratitude and a desire to be the Lord’s representatives of His Kingdom, bringing honour to His name as we serve others.  Where He leads, He empowers to follow and to do His will.  The question is always, are we willing.
