Emerging Conversation

Conversation can be defined as the informal interchange of thoughts, information, through spoken words and as oral communication between persons.  It is the art of talking, listening, and interacting with this exchange between two or more individuals.  The emergent conversations are those dialogs taking place in which authenticity and grace and common courtesy and respect are extend, in the hope of sharing in mutually beneficial and edifying dialog and communication.

We cannot hope to understand the diversity within emergent circles, never mind the broad Evangelical and other Christian streams, as well as those who are not yet in the Kingdom of God, by having a one way dialog.  Conversation implies within it the very act of the exchange of thoughts and ideas and the interaction of those ideas between those conversing.

Friends begin through the risk taking engagement of conversation.  It is worth the risk, and the delight of discovery that results from the engagement of minds and hearts.  As people converse, issues are discussed and solutions are sought, very often pragmatic ones, but solutions none the less, to alleviate distress, economic and social injustice, as well as build bridges of understanding between people who would otherwise not take time to discover and value.
God can work wonders, when we engage in compassion and love and respect with those different than ourselves.  He is the One who energizes the conversation, guides its direction, and as the conversation proceeds, those engaged will discover what the two on the Emmaus road discovered, that their hearts are strangely warmed by the encounter!
