Our first Starfish Network conference, at least in “name” and not certainly not our first conference, but it is exciting, and there is a lot of anticipation for what is around the corner.
What can we say… almost a year since Larry Kreider and DOVE came to Newmarket, Ontario for the Starting a House Church one day seminar. Hard to believe.
There were some good contacts made at that gathering of about a 100 people. It was good to reconnect with some old friends, and to make new ones and to visit with people who were exploring the option of simple relational community.
For some of us it also included having to deal with some baggage from our journeys within the house church movement, and as in any other people movement, it meant dealing with the “mixture” of the good and the well, not as good.
Overall, one must confess that it takes time to have healing permeate through out system. We may know it in our heads, but making the transition and the transformation 18 inches lower to the heart, well, that too is another thing entirely.
Most of the people who I know who have pioneered in this house church vision, will confess that what they live and know now, bears little resemblance to the ideal they initially embraced. Way too much water has gone under the bridge of life experience, and if we reject all of that, then we deprive ourselves of the joys and the delights of seeing the transformation in our own lives and in our inner heart. We are what we are today, more as a result of our pain and rejection and how God has used it to reveal the character of Christ in us, than through all of our mountain top experiences. So, I do not want to live in any form of denial, of the good or the bad, and I choose to embrace the place where God has me. [Larry Kreider in Newmarket in September 2007]
God has me in a new day and a new place of expectation. I have held off from planting a new house church for a while now, but sense that the time is now upon me, to act and conform to my beliefs, to get fully on God’s page, as to what He is doing, where I live, and how I can fully embrace this place, and see redemptive relational communities established, right here in Waterloo. So, my expectation in God is great, and I am resting in Him, and I have a great sense of a turning taking place. It all is being set up, and this up and coming conference in Toronto, is part of that “divine equation” and for that I am very thankful for this D Day, a day where we can all come together, share our hearts, our passions, our visions, of what God has been revealing to us and pouring into us, for “such a time as this.”
So, the final preparations are set in motion. Rad Zdero, a brother from Mississauga, will be sharing on the vision for a regional network that will grow and partner together to advance the Kingdom of God in this region. Ed Peng, a brother in Kitchener, will be sharing on Grace in the house church. Al Remley, a brother from Guelph, will be sharing on Evangelism in the house church. Jerry Steingard, a brother from Barrie, will be sharing on Personal Revival in house church. I will be sharing on Reimagining the 5 Fold in the house church. All of us have walked together for some time, and some of us for quite a few years. We are passionate about intimate life in Christ and how we can become part of what God is doing in our region, and how He desires to have all of us partner with Him and advance the Kingdom together.
Each one of us within our little relational apostolic council, we have been praying and planning for this for quite some time, and we will be coordinating this gathering. We are trusting the Lord and we are resting in Him, knowing that He will bring who He wants to bring. We really have no idea who and how many will come, but it will be God’s perfect number. There is no anxiety, and no tension. There is a peaceful rest, and a contentment, that God is building His church, and we are going along for the ride. I hope to see many of you there. I will be writing more about the gathering, in a retrospective in the coming weeks ahead. As for now, it is waiting patiently for D Day! I hope to renew friendships and make new ones!
